Our Team

The Greater Minnesota Partnership contracts with the professionals at Flaherty & Hood, P.A. to provide comprehensive legislative services, in addition to marketing, communications, and operations support. Our team is always available to answer questions about the GMNP, our mission, and the issues we work on.

Scott McMahon

Scott McMahon

Executive Director

Scott joined the GMNP in 2017 and was selected to serve as Executive Director in 2021 thanks to his track record of leadership and successful advocacy. During the legislative session, Scott spends his time running around the Capitol, leveraging his strong bipartisan relationships and public policy experience to promote Greater Minnesota priorities. In his tenure as executive director, Scott has also played an instrumental role in growing the Partnership to represent nearly 100 businesses, nonprofits, local governments, and chambers of commerce from across the state.

For more than a decade, Scott’s career has focused on workforce and economic development issues, first as the Director of Government and Community Affairs with the Minnesota Private College Council, then as a consultant forging partnerships between educational institutions and local communities to better align education programs with workforce needs. Before that, McMahon worked as the research director at the National Institute for Health Policy on policies affecting health care and long-term care delivery, access, and affordability.

McMahon grew up in Algona, Iowa, and now lives in St. Paul with his wife Melanie and two children. When he is not busy at the Capitol or around the state working on behalf of Greater Minnesota businesses and communities, you can usually find him on the sidelines of a soccer field or at a hockey arena cheering on his kids. His interests include biking and hiking, barbecuing, and travel.

Emma Nelson

Emma works behind the scenes to keep the Greater Minnesota Partnership running smoothly. Her duties range from member outreach to technical support and everything in between.

Emma graduated summa cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2022 with degrees in political science and Spanish. At Gustavus, Emma worked in the Admission and Advancement offices and was hired as a freelance writer for the Office of Marketing and Communications. She has also published academic research related to exercise science, public health, public policy, and interest group studies.

Emma grew up in Saint Paul and moved back to the city after college. When she’s not entertaining her dog Rosie, Emma enjoys baking, exercising, spending time outdoors, and caring for too many house plants.

Alex Wildfang

Alex Wildfang

Communications Manager

Alex leads the development and implementation of media and communications strategies for the Greater Minnesota Partnership, including media outreach and content creation. She researches, writes, and edits materials such as press releases, social media posts, newsletters, and legislative policy briefs. Whether maintaining relationships with media outlets or building new ones with elected officials, Alex relishes every opportunity to connect with others. In her position, Alex seeks to promote strategies and conversations that both inform and advocate.

Prior to joining Flaherty & Hood and the GMNP, Alex interned at the law firm of Robins Kaplan LLP before studying Political Science and International Relations at Florida International University, where she graduated summa cum laude. Alex grew up in Eden Prairie and returned to Minnesota after living outside the state for almost eight years. When she’s not busy coordinating press conferences or drafting media statements, she spends her time watching movies, traveling, and playing trivia games with her husband, Christian. She also enjoys cooking, classic films, and crossword puzzles.
